Best cooking oil : Groundnut oil

Groundnut oil and sunflower oil are two popular cooking oil options, but which one is better for your health? Let's compare their nutritional profiles, smoke points, flavors, health benefits, availability, and prices to make an informed decision.

Groundnut oil is high in monounsaturated fatty acids (46.8g) and polyunsaturated linoleic acid (26.7g), with vitamins E, K, and B6. It contains around 884 calories per 100g. Sunflower oil also contains monounsaturated oleic acid (57.3g) and polyunsaturated linoleic acid (51.5g), with vitamins E, K, and A. It has around 828 calories per 100g. Sunflower oil has a slightly better nutritional profile, with higher levels of "good" fats and vitamins.

Groundnut oil has a moderately high smoke point of 232°C, suitable for light frying and sautéing. Sunflower oil has a very high smoke point of up to 275°C, making it ideal for deep frying, stir-frying, and high-heat cooking methods.

Groundnut oil has a distinctive nutty aroma and strong peanut flavor, enhancing dishes like curries, stir-fries, and fried snacks. Sunflower oil has a lighter, neutral flavor, allowing other ingredients to shine. Choose groundnut oil for Indian and Asian dishes, and sunflower oil for a more versatile cooking oil.

Both oils offer health benefits: groundnut oil reduces bad LDL cholesterol and heart disease risk, while sunflower oil contains cholesterol-lowering fats and antioxidants. Sunflower oil's higher antioxidant content gives it a slight edge.
